New Moon

The New Moon in Leo invites us to feed, nurture, and tend to our light, to fire up our vitality, passion, and creativity. With the New Moon at the first (zero) degree of Leo, and conjunct Mars at 2° Leo, this lunation presents a potent opportunity to rebirth ourselves and our radiance.

Mars in Leo in its most negative form is the tyrant, the bully, the egomaniac. We’re seeing many examples of this shadowy expression living large in the world, and we might look inside ourselves to find our own willfulness, childishness, self-centeredness, and attempts to control others.

The conjunction of the Sun and Mars  is the start of a two-year cycle that represents the rebirth of the masculine traits such as vitality, motivation, passion, and assertion. High-vibe Mars in Leo is the Warrior of the Heart. It takes courage to remain openhearted in the face of so much fear and hatred in the world. It takes will, consistent practice, and self-discipline.

Moon conjunct Mars makes us passionate about protecting those we consider our family. At this time everything is about strategy, our instincts are extra-sensitive and we react super-fast to any outside threat. Moon conjunct Mars is very physical, and most useful in competitive sports like tennis or fencing, when one has to anticipate the moves of one’s opponent

Mars square Uranus gives a strong urge to break free from restriction and rebel against authority. A tendency to act rashly without regard for the consequences can lead to problems. Try to find an area of life in which you can tear up the rules and have some fun. You cannot restrain this erratic energy so you find ways to express any excess energy, anger or frustration. Try to apply your creative energies to artwork, or even better sculpture, and other creative pursuits such as dance. Physical activity is preferable but the brain can also burn up a lot of energy.

Mars will gradually regain its strength, and in early September, when Mars separates from the Sun and becomes visible again, we’ll be ready to move forward with renewed energy and clarity. For now, especially at the New Moon, we can tend the subtle sparks within and feel into where our heart’s passion is calling us.  When we’re deeply centered in ourselves, we’re strong enough to open to the pain of the world without being destroyed by it. We can then contribute to collective healing, becoming agents of creation instead of victims of tyranny and chaos
