New Moon in Taurus

This Taurus New Moon on May 15th heralds a revolution in our relationship with the material world. Just hours after the Sun and Moon conjoin, Uranus, planet of radical change, enters Taurus for the first time since 1942. The first of the earth signs, Taurus represents our basic survival needs — food, shelter, clothing, and money. While Aries is the fire that sparks new life, Taurus sustains life as the builder, farmer, and Earth steward. Ruled by Venus, Taurus also favors beauty, pleasure, and sensuality. We’re not here just to survive, but to revel in our embodiment and in the beauty and abundance of nature

Taurus is the sign most directly associated with planet Earth, and humanity’s desecration of our home planet reflects our distorted expression of this sign. Uranus’s entry into Taurus could be dramatic — first, because it happens just a few hours after the New Moon, and lunations often trigger planetary transits. Another strong catalyst for volatile energies at the New Moon is a square from Mars at 29° Capricorn to Uranus at 29° Aries.

Mercury in Taurus is in mutual reception with Venus in Gemini, the dispositor of this New Moon. Their empowerment supports the higher potential of reawakening our sensory intelligence and capacity to communicate with nature.

This New Moon invites us to plant a seed of intention for our highest vision of Uranus in Taurus, both for ourselves and for humanity. Radical equanimity — being so grounded in the center of our being that we’re unfazed by outer events — is one potential we can invite in and practice at this New Moon. Spending time in nature, grounding into the Earth, and nurturing our bodies are recommended. With so much shifting in the physical realm, in what we are typically attached to for security, we’re called to rest more deeply within ourselves to access the peace and stability that Taurus seeks.
