New Moon in Sagittarius
The last month of 2024 begins on a high note with a New Moon in the sign of the Cosmic Archer, Sagittarius.
This archetypal Seeker sign urges, over the next few months as this New Moon develops to her full expression, unbounded expansion and unparalleled growth, as symbolised by her ruler, Jupiter.
Yet, circumspect we must be, as Jupiter is still in the sign of his detriment - Gemini - until May 2025.
The shadow of the Sagittarius and Gemini axis is ‘too much, too many’. This energy can be excessive and overwhelming, like an octopus with far too many arms. We simply can’t do it all, whatever we might think.
Thus, when embarking on our next exciting adventure, our next exciting journey, it behooves us to pick carefully what’s worth our energy and investment. Saturn’s square with the planet of expansion brings a sense that our current opportunities are somewhat limited, that our (many, many!) activities are being pruned and refined by this frugal, cautious archetype. It’s an energy we’ve been dealing with all year, which, if we gave in to its frustration, could lead to despair.
Nevertheless, Sagittarius never gives up hope - there is a silver lining in every limitation, and the Archer knows where to find it. Let’s follow suit.
Jupiter’s opposition to Mercury - currently retrograde - begs for a balance between the big picture and the details required to carry out our visions. Talking too much - or too little - may not serve us at this moment; action is what counts.
This is where Mars steps in.
The Warlord’s trine to La Luna and the Sun helps us put into motion what we most desire, albeit under Father Saturn’s stern, watchful eye. When we pursue our growth with single-minded passion, we will meet our greatest success. Sagittarius’s arrows never fail to reach their mark. This sign is not known as the "God’s Favorite Child" for nothing. No matter the cosmic challenge, this is one sign that never fails to get lucky and land right on their feet.
Yet, despite this New Moon’s high drive, energy, and can-do approach, we must keep in mind Mars’s pre-retrograde shadow phase, mere days before his actual retrograde on December 6th. Thus, our pursuits may slow down as we retrace our steps and fine-tune our projects, ambitions, and desires. The energy of this New Moon will last several months, even if Mars is not at his finest.
Conjunct the fixed star Antares, whatever we pursue will be done with fervor and intensity. Antares can be headstrong, militant, and ravenous. Sagittarius is not a sign known for her temperance, making it crucial to invite a moment of reflection before we plunge ahead.
The enthusiasm generated by this New Moon is undeniable. Its energy should be thoroughly embraced, particularly when there’s growth involved. A touch of patience and a healthy dose of faith are essential to make the journey ahead a joyful one.
