Pluto Retrograde in Capricorn

It’s time for the planet of death and rebirth, the planet of destruction and transformation Pluto to begins its yearly Retrograde motion, on 27 April, 2021. For about six months until October 6th, we will be, once again, facing deep shifts when it comes to Capricorn-ruled topics, namely our careers, our long-term goals, the structures we have in our lives and our biggest responsibilities.

Pluto, in female form, can be compared to the Tantric Goddess Kali, Goddess of Death, time, Creation, Destruction and Power. She is much like Shiva, who also represents these intense and deep qualities, and her gift is being able to create anew out of the ashes. This planet can also be compared to the mythological Hades, God of the Underworld. Thus, despite Pluto’s’ astronomical size, being the smallest of the planets, he actually packs quite a punch!

When Pluto goes Retrograde, his powers can be weakened, just like any planet in Retrograde. The purpose of Retrogrades is the universe’s way of nudging us to go within and to examine, review and reflect on whatever the planet in question represents.  With Pluto, it’s a period in which we look at all our shadows and issues around power, control and surrender. It’s a time that we can purge, specifically when it comes to our professional life. Pluto has been in Capricorn for quite some time already, and every year has gone Retrograde – so this is no new lesson to us.

Pluto will travel between 26 and 24 degrees of Capricorn, so those of us with personal planets or angels in cardinal signs (Aries, Libra, cancer and Capricorn itself), will feel this Retrograde the most. We might experience profound transformation and endings in some area of our lives, and the pressure can be very intense! Some of us may experience loss, but if we are empowered about it, we might take control and choose in which area we can let go and release something – rather than just let it “happen” to us.

As he travels through these degrees, throughout the next six months, Pluto will come into contact with the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus and Mars. April and May look set to be more empowering than challenging, though June is a tough time as Mars and Venus make hard aspects to Pluto. This can push our relationships to the brink and bring forth toxic patterns to be purged. Here, we have to find ways to work as team instead of attempting to “win”.

Fortunately, August, September and October look easier as Pluto once against aligns nicely to a few earth-sign planets and we may begin to integrate the profound, yet subtle, changes over the last few months and weeks. In fact, once this is over, we may look back and look forward to the next time that Pluto works his special kind of magic! It takes courage to work with the shadows of this planet, but the rewards can be truly magnificent and long-lasting.
