Animal Totems

Native peoples of many countries have animal spirits that play a very important part in their lives. In Chinese astrology all the signs are animals and in western astrology most of the signs are animals.

By getting to know your animal totem, you can gain insight and understanding of your own life circumstances more clearly, and share in the totem power or 'medicine'. Animal totems manifest a specific kind of energy that will align to forces of the spiritual realm that are influencing your life.

Bat

In the mythologies of differing cultures bats symbolize both good and evil, life and death. In China many legends associate bats with good fortune. In European cultures, bats have long been associated with witchcraft, black magic and darkness. The Weird Sisters incorporate the fur of a bat in their brew in Shakespeare's Macbeth, written around 1603-1605. Because bats are mammals, yet can fly, this gives them status as liminal beings in many cultural traditions. In Western culture, the bat is often a symbol of the night and its foreboding nature. The bat is a primary animal associated with fictional characters of the night, both villains, such as Dracula, and heroes, such as Batman.

In nature, Bat is very nurturing, showing itself as socialized in its group. They have unique communication skills and stay close to family and young. While they might avoid humans, there is no lack of interaction among their own.

Bat can symbolize death, as a Spirit Animal, it does not have to be a literal death. Instead something may end – a job, a living space, a relationship or even outmoded thoughts about yourself and your role in the greater scheme of things. Bat is here to make this change as smooth as possible and ease you through any associated pain.

Bat Dreams

Dream about Bats can be powerful omens of negative energy. But this is ONLY because society has vilified these amazing animals. Bats are associated with tales of vampires and other demonic entities. Because of this Bats symbolize being internally (mentally, emotionally and spiritually) ‘unclean’.
