Full Moon in Libra

The first day of Spring, for some known as April Fool’s Day, kicks off with a romantic Full Moon in sweet-talking Libra. Balance and compromise characterise this Full Moon energy. These qualities often be difficult for Libra to embody; particularly when both La Luna and the Sun are in a tight square with (usually benevolent) Jupiter. Squares to benefic planets are often harmless, yet still need monitoring. Jupiterian energy can be too much of a good thing: too much compromise, too much diplomacy and too much people-pleasing at the cost of our authenticity.

Counterbalanced to this Full Moon is the Sun in Aries. Independent, fearless and confrontational, the Sun vies for attention with the Moon, inviting a middle ground rather than a push-pull dynamic. We might see this dynamic unfold in our relationships, whether with a beloved, friend, parent or colleague. It’s us against them, the desire for assertion warring with the need for harmony. The question becomes: can we be both honest and kind? Both direct and fair?

Full Moons always shine a light on where the missing pieces are; they illuminate, reflect and enhance the lessons already unfolding. We can’t run, and we certainly cannot hide. Some connections may break apart at this point, whilst others become stronger because we’re willing to work with each other. Aries needs Libra: the art of peacemaking and cooperation is something they must learn. Libra, in turn, benefits from embracing the assertive fire of Aries, from learning to stop the swallowing of their truth whilst still valuing partnership as the ultimate prize.

Back to Jupiter: this square may also manifest as overconfidence, exaggerated reactions and too-big emotional responses. The tendency to become condescending, know-it-all, blustering, even arrogant, may creep in if left unchecked. Where might we own these qualities rather than projecting them outward? How can we stop pointing fingers and instead take a good, hard look at ourselves with honesty and maturity?

Ruling Libra is Venus, square Pluto. Aphrodite and Hades meet in a heady mix, magnifying shadows and showing where manipulations, jealousies and obsessions are taking root and poisoning our relationships. When we resort to these tactics, we deny ourselves the opportunity to be truly vulnerable and speak from the heart, to say what is really hurting us and what we most deeply desire. As such, power struggles are likely to arise. All Libra wants to do is work as a team, whereas the Pluto energy craves complete power - to win, to gain the upper hand, to feel in control. We might give in to these games, only to find it lonely at the top. A hollow victory is no victory at all.

Joining hands and seeing one another’s points of view whilst maintaining our sovereignty is a win-win outcome. There’s no need to escalate unnecessarily. Can we, instead, moderate ourselves? Control our responses rather than attempting to control others? This is the ultimate achievement of the Full Moon - conscious balance, fierce honesty and open-hearted partnership.
