New Moon in Virgo

The new moon on Wednesday September 20, 2017 is at 27 degrees Virgo. The Virgo New Moon invites us to call our power back into our bodies, get focused on reality, and take steps to perfect and heal what’s right in front of us

Our ability to respond to dramatic world events depends on our mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual health. Discernment is one of Virgo’s gifts, so take a look at what in your life is nourishing and what is toxic and ready to be released.

Saturn is the principle of necessity, and its square to Chiron in Pisces can push us to come out of denial and turn toward the things we’re afraid to see in ourselves and in the world. Saturn–Chiron can make it apparent that it’s actually more painful to stay in illusion than to face reality. When we soften our defenses and open up to the pain we’ve been avoiding, we’re able to access gifts and powers we didn’t even know we had. The moon will remind you of the most painful wounds you have suffered. In order to move forward you must begin focus on the healing process. This will involve adapting to unexpected changes or making adjustments to your longer term hopes and dreams.

Jupiter opposite Uranus often brings sudden events that releases built up tension that in turn brings a major change in your circumstances. The more restricted you have felt, the more upsetting the change is likely to be.

Mercury, ruler of Virgo, is exalted in its home sign and, as it emerges from its retrograde shadow, precisely opposes Neptune. Mercury–Neptune carries the potential for distorted, distracted thinking and getting lost in illusion, but can also expand our intuition and ability to tune into the big picture.

It is important to be flexible and adapt to changing conditions. Try to go with the flow and fit in. If you resist change and become arrogant or disruptive you will suffer losses or miss out on good opportunities. You don’t need to totally change direction but to make careful adjustments. This New Moon is a time to simplify, refine, and improve any areas of our lives that have fallen into chaos, so we can become more effective agents of service.
