North Node in Gemini

One of the most important transits of the year occurs on May 5th, 2020: the Nodes of the Moon shift into new signs. As the Nodes shift, the energy of our lives shift as well.

The North Node will be moving from its home sign of Cancer to Gemini, and the South Node finally moves from the heaviness of Capricorn to Sagittarius. The North Node arrives in Gemini for the first time in 18 years, and will remain there until January 2022. It will be joining Venus, and then on May 11th, Mercury, the natural ruler of Gemini, will join the mix.

In order to fully understand the importance of this transit, we must first examine what the Nodes of the Moon symbolize in Astrology. The South Node, or descending node represents our past and our karma. The North Node, or ascending node, represents our future and the ability to create our destiny...in so much as we are able to overcome the lessons of the past.

The magic of manifesting when working with the energy of the lunar nodes is found grasping the concept that we are only able to fully move into the light of the future by embracing the shadow of our past. We will be given that opportunity for the next 18 months under the energy influence of the Gemini/Sagittarius axis, which is the axis of the intellect and knowledge.

Gemini is a mutable Air sign, ruled by Mercury. Mercury represents our lower mind, or how we learn in the here and now. It is our thoughts, and how we communicate them. Gemini is an energy associated with the people we choose to interact within our everyday environment. It rules the 3rd house of local travel and short trips close to home. Gemini is our primary education system and skill-building from one-on-one experiences with our friends, family, co-workers, and community.

Sagittarius is a mutable Fire sign, ruled by Jupiter. Jupiter represents abundance, luck, and expansion. Sagittarius seeks knowledge by examining higher truths. It rules the 9th house of world travel and the study of different cultures. Sagittarius studies different spiritual modalities in order to broaden philosophical ideals and beliefs based on known truths. Gemini is the student and Sagittarius is the teacher. Sagittarius wants us to study what other people believe and how they created the structures in their lives. Gemini wants us to search curiously within ourselves for our own personal truths and create a life that is in alignment with the personal viewpoints that we discover.

For the next 18 months, in order to focus on our future, we must embody the characteristics of Gemini to align ourselves with the North Node. At the opposite side of the chart, the South Node in Sagittarius represents us letting go of Spiritual beliefs that we have accepted as truth, which may no longer be in true alignment with our future vision. In order to move forward in our personal evolutionary process of growth in a way that also contributes to the collective process, it is imperative to adopt a child-like curiosity...an open-mindedness that allows the past to crumble in order to build a new future.

Gemini energy encourages us to implement a hands-on approach to our Spiritual learning. Instead of just reading about Tibetan singing bowls or Buddist meditation, we actually incorporate them into a personal daily practice in our home. In order to understand the world as a whole, first, we must fully understand the beauty all around us. We find it at the nearby creek, the field of flowers at the park, or the sunset in our own backyard.
