Uranus Retrograde in Taurus

Uranus, Sky God and Cosmic Titan, is about to begin his retrograde journey, starting from August 29th and lasting all the way until January 27th, 2024. This six-month odyssey is bound to take us on a powerful and memorable inward journey – a journey of discovering our inner freedom, a journey of embracing change, a journey of understanding the radical shifts that have taken place in our world over the last few years.

Uranus ingressed into Taurus on May 15th, 2018, and will continue to visit this sensual, embodied and materially savvy earth sign until April 2026. This planet symbolizes awakening. Like the fire that the mythical Prometheus stole, the principle of Uranus is to shake up our foundations, to brings us to an awareness of our power, our freedom. He’s here to liberate us with his lightning bolts of radical, unprecedent and unexpected change.

Taurus, on the other hand, is the principle of stability. Of routine. Of consistency, comfort and sensual pleasure. Taurus, most definitely, does not like change – at least not when it’s suddenly imposed. If they instigate the change, well, it’s an entirely different story.

Thus, these two are uneasy bedfellows. Uranus, the Great Liberator, wakes Taurus out of their comfortable, relaxed slumber, and reminds them that growth is non-negotiable. Things change. Life is unpredictable. Relationships, finances, home – these are all things that have been subject to the radicalism of Uranus.

So, what happens now that Uranus is moving retrograde?

Well, retrograde both emphasizes and weakens the energy of a planet. During the few weeks prior and after he begins his journey backwards, we might find that Taurean issues, already mentioned, are in a state of chaos.

Of course, Venus, ruler of Taurus, is also retrograde until September 4th, which doesn’t exactly help the issue. She pays a thrice-time visit to Uranus via three squares, with the last one being on September 29th. This is yet another sign that our relationships and resources are up for sudden shifts and unexpected developments. Breakups may be rife. So too, are makeups. Financial planning will be to no avail. It may even be that the very ground beneath our feet – our homes, properties, our stability – may come under the lightning strikes of the electric dance between Uranus and Venus.

Yet. There’s a method to this madness. If we really step back and see things objectively, we might come to realize that these changes were long overdue. That, instead of stepping forward and instigating the transitions that we sorely needed, we allowed it to happen to us. Change is scary. It’s not easy. Sometimes, the Universe has to step in, via these powerful transits and retrogrades, to help us along the path.

There is gift to this retrograde. It’s freedom. Freedom within, freedom without. There’s also plenty of opportunity, once the initial rumbles have gentled, to integrate and absorb all of what’s happened. At least until January, when the earthquakes start all over again. Except, this time we will be prepared. Not only will we be prepared, but we may even look forward to the change, get excited about it, even thrilled.  See, once we get used to the roller-coaster ride of Uranus, we may find that we never want it to stop.
