Attacks of Loneliness

Attacks of Loneliness

Attacks of Loneliness can feel like an unexpected emotional weather change—often intensifying when you’re tired, stressed, or longing for reassurance. Rather than “proof” you’re unlovable, these episodes may highlight unmet needs (connection, safety, belonging) and may bring up older conditioning about rejection or abandonment. Over time, loneliness can also affect:

1) Relationships: reaching out less, misreading tone, or settling for less to avoid discomfort.2) Self-worth: harsh inner commentary and rumination about “what’s wrong with me.”3) Choice & pace: withdrawing, delaying decisions, or over-optimizing social access.4) Body & habits: sleep disruption, low energy, and comfort-seeking that briefly dulls the ache.

With awareness, you may start responding to loneliness with curiosity—asking what it’s signaling—rather than obeying it.
