AstroMatrix calculates transit charts using real-time Swiss Ephemeris data for current planetary positions compared against your natal chart. The calculator offers several viewing options:

Time Selection

View transits for right now (current moment), specific dates (past or future), or date ranges to see how transits evolve over time. You can explore transits for any date from past decades to years into the future.

Aspect Filtering

Choose which aspects to display - major aspects only (conjunction, opposition, square, trine, sextile) or include minor aspects (semisquare, sesquiquadrate, quincunx). Most users focus on major aspects for clarity, especially when beginning transit work.

Planet Selection

Filter by outer planets only (Jupiter through Pluto) for long-term themes, inner planets only (Sun through Mars) for timing triggers, or view all planets simultaneously. Outer planet transits create multi-month or multi-year themes, while inner planets mark specific days and weeks.

House Systems

Your natal house system (Placidus, Whole Sign, Equal, etc.) determines how transiting planets move through your houses. The same house system you use for your birth chart applies to transit interpretation.

Transit Duration and Timing

Outer Planet Transits

Jupiter transits last 1-2 weeks for fast aspects but can repeat 2-3 times over several months with retrograde motion. Saturn transits last 2-3 months and often repeat 3 times (direct, retrograde, direct). Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto transits can last 1-2 years with multiple exact hits due to slow retrograde patterns.

Inner Planet Transits

Sun, Mercury, Venus, and Mars create transits lasting days to weeks. These faster-moving planets often trigger or activate longer-term outer planet transits, providing timing windows for outer planet themes to manifest concretely.

Retrograde Considerations

When planets retrograde, they can aspect your natal planets multiple times - first while direct, again while retrograde, and finally while direct again. These triple-hit transits provide multiple opportunities to work with the transit's themes and tend to create more lasting changes.

Orbs and Exactitude

Transit aspects are strongest when exact (0° orb) and use tighter orbs than natal aspects - typically 1° for outer planets and 1-2° for inner planets. The influence builds as the transit approaches exactitude and fades as it separates.
