Day-for-a-Year Formula

The fundamental principle: each day after your birth represents one year of life. If you're 30 years old, your progressed chart shows planetary positions from 30 days after your birth. This symbolic time-mapping reveals psychological maturation patterns.

Progression Speed by Planet

Sun: ~1° per year (30° per 30 years to change signs)
Moon: ~12-13° per year (completes zodiac in 27-28 years)
Mercury, Venus, Mars: Variable speeds, sometimes retrograde
Outer planets: Move very slowly in progressions, often staying in same sign

House Systems

Progressed charts use the same house system as your natal chart - typically Placidus or Whole Sign. The progressed Ascendant shifts roughly 1° per year, changing signs approximately every 20-30 years.
