The Vesta person tends inward, toward singular focus and the maintenance of an internal flame; the Mars person tends outward, toward initiation and dispersal of energy across multiple targets. This square creates friction at the point of direction, the Vesta person experiences the Mars person's drive as scattering, demanding attention away from what requires protection and concentration. The Mars person, meanwhile, reads the Vesta person's steadiness as resistance or withholding, a refusal to meet their momentum halfway.

The Mars person possesses a hidden competence here, the capacity to learn that not all energy requires immediate expression, that some things need the slow burn the Vesta person tends. The Vesta person, in turn, may discover through the Mars person's pressure that devotion without some form of assertive engagement becomes brittle, a private shrine rather than a living commitment. When the Mars person learns to respect the Vesta person's need for containment and singular focus, and they channel some of that force into their dedication rather than seeing it only as distraction, the square stops being pure friction and becomes a rhythm, intensity tempered by endurance, endurance activated by force.

Both people unconsciously share the equation that intensity of commitment correlates with speed of action. The Vesta person may mistake the Mars person's breadth for shallowness; the Mars person may mistake their depth for passivity. Neither is true.
