New Moon in Virgo

A sensitive, edgy New Moon in Virgo on the 23rd reveals routines likely to go awry over the next few months. Even the best-laid plans are vulnerable to sudden, rapid change, making it essential not to cling onto control. Virgo, after all, is a stickler for organisation. Yet, being the most mutable earth sign, it’s also known for unorganised chaos. Many Virgoans can be surprisingly scattered, and with the Uranian influence, it’s expected that things can be topsy-turvy.
What makes this an even more unique New Moon is its birth at zero degrees of Virgo. It’s a critical degree, representing all the newness and potential of whatever sign it falls in. There’s a slight sense of underdevelopment – it’s raw, fresh and tremendously new. It’s unformed energy in its purest form - a tremendously powerful symbol of a new chapter.
So, not only is it a New Moon – always symbolic of fresh beginnings – but it’s a New Moon supercharged with spring-like energies. Thus, clinging onto what’s known, what’s comfortable, what’s familiar is not a strategy that will work for anyone. When we do away with tradition, with formulas that have worked for us before, we learn to set ourselves free. This is no easy feat. The temptation to walk the well-trodden pathways that we know so well is tempting.
For example, with Virgo being the sign of wellness and health, the urge is to kick into gear routines that have worked for us before: drinking a glass of lemon water every morning, going for a long walk in the evening, starting the day with journaling. While these anchors are excellent lifestyle supports, and there’s no reason why we shouldn’t implement them, maybe it’s time to invite something totally new. Something we’ve never done before – maybe even something a little off the beaten track.
Most importantly, our new habits need to reflect the ability to be flexible and shake things up. Because we are very likely to waver, to be distracted, to even be unreliable with ourselves. Creating flexible routines is the key. Creating routines that are exciting and fresh, that are new and different, is how we’ll avoid disappointing ourselves.
The same applies to the work we do – our flow, our administration, our meetings, appointments, how we navigate our day-to-day doings. This is the time to explore new possibilities, to apply for a new position, to explore the possibility of freelancing or creating more freedom in our daily routines.
The ruler of Virgo – Mercury – lies in confident Leo, emphasising how important it is to put ourselves first and to believe in our skills – to be confident in what we do, in our creative ability and the ability to lead. The world is our oyster, full of glimmering possibilities. Let’s follow the beat of our own, unique drum now. Trusting the Healer within, surrendering to the beautiful chaos — this is how we emerge transformed, wiser, freer, alight with possibility.
