Cardinal Meaning

Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn represent the cardinal modality. The movers and shakers of the zodiac, cardinal signs know how to take action and make things happen. It’s no coincidence that they can be found at key jumping-off points on the chart wheel (i.e., the ascendant, the medium coeli or MC, the descendant, and the imum coeli or IC). Each kicking off the start of a new season, these signs live to shake up stale energy, as they love to find fresh ways of expressing (Aries), feeling (Cancer), communicating (Libra) and building (Capricorn). With their fingers on the pulse of what’s new, they are excellent initiators, natural creators, and born leaders. Full of drive and ambition, cardinal signs can be unstoppable forces — under the right circumstances. Although enterprising and independent, they tend to be better at starting than finishing.
