10 of Swords

10 of Swords

The Ten of Swords in the tarot represents the culmination of a challenging journey, symbolizing the evolution of consciousness as described by Friedrich Nietzsche in his book, Thus Spake Zarathustra. Nietzsche describes three stages: the camel, the lion, and the child.

The camel represents a state of sleepiness and self-satisfaction, where one is burdened by the opinions and expectations of others. In this state, one may believe they are at the peak of their existence, but they lack the energy and authenticity to truly live their own life.

As the camel evolves, the lion emerges. The lion is a symbol of rebellion, where one starts saying no to the demands of others and begins to assert their own truth. It is a time of standing alone, proud and fierce, as you reclaim your own power and authenticity.

Yet, the journey does not end with the lion. From the lion, the child emerges. The child represents a state of innocence, spontaneity, and authenticity. It is a state where you are neither acquiescent nor rebellious, but true to your own being. Whatever space you find yourself in right now, be it one of sleepiness or rebellion, be aware that it is a stepping stone towards growth and change.

Reflect on this: How can you move from a state of external validation towards a deeper connection with your own true self?
