Eris Inconjunct Mars
The Eris person and the Mars person operate on fundamentally misaligned permission structures. The Mars person moves toward what they want with directness and velocity; the Eris person carries a wound around exclusion that makes them hypersensitive to being overridden or rendered invisible. When the Mars person acts, the Eris person does not experience this as simple assertion, they experience it as erasure, a refusal to account for their presence in the space. This is the core inconjunct: Mars assumes the right to move; Eris assumes the right to be acknowledged before anyone moves.
The Mars person's directness, even when well-intentioned, lands on the Eris person as disregard. They may respond not with matching force but with sharp withdrawal or a sudden, disproportionate counterattack that confuses the Mars person, who was simply pursuing their goal and did not register the Eris person's claim to be consulted first. The Mars person reads this as irrational; the Eris person reads the Mars person's surprise as proof they were never seen. A concrete moment: the Mars person makes a decision about shared plans without checking in; the Eris person, who had a different vision, responds with cold silence or a biting remark that seems to come from nowhere. The Mars person feels blamed for something they didn't know was wrong.
The inconjunct creates no natural bridge between assertion and acknowledgment. The Mars person cannot soften their directness enough to make the Eris person feel included without losing their own forward momentum. The Eris person cannot voice their need to be consulted without sounding like they are blocking the Mars person's autonomy. Both may interpret compromise as capitulation. The relational work requires the Mars person to genuinely pause and ask, not as a courtesy, but as a recognition that the Eris person's presence changes what is possible. It requires the Eris person to distinguish between being excluded and being disagreed with. Without this, the dynamic cycles: Mars moves, Eris recoils, Mars feels attacked for existing, Eris feels confirmed in their invisibility.
The Eris person possesses attunement to power imbalances and can name what others leave unspoken. The Mars person's gift is the ability to act despite uncertainty. When the Eris person learns to use their sensitivity as information rather than injury, and the Mars person learns that pausing is not surrender, this aspect can produce a partnership where neither person disappears into the other's momentum. Until then, the friction stays sharp and the cycle repeats.
