Full Moon in Cancer

Emotions run high with January’s Supermoon in tender Cancer on the 3rd. The year is off to a sentimental start as we slough off the chapter that’s just passed and gently learn to release the experiences, life lessons, and situations that no longer serve us into 2026.

So, if there’s a sense that things are still coming to an end, even as we step into this fresh new dawn, trust your intuition - it’s spot on. Cancer is, after all, known to rule the realms of inner perception, deep knowing, and gut feelings. Ignoring that inner voice comes at a cost.

What is our gut telling us now?

Where are we feeling urged to cut - with love? Mars opposing the Moon offers the polarity of action working with instinct. We might flip-flop - as is usual for Full Moons - between two extremes until we find equilibrium within. Flailing in pointless rage isn’t the way, but neither is clinging to behaviours that keep the peace while stifling our true desires. Security can be hard-won at this Full Moon, as it may come at the cost of expressing our deepest, truest wants - even if they appear selfish.

Venus saves the day: with her connection to the Sun in Capricorn and her opposition to the Moon, love and connection ask to be emphasised. She works together with Mars, also joined to both Sun and Moon, producing a passion mingled with attraction. This need not be romantic: our desires guide us toward purpose. Attraction is the Prima Materia for that which we most deeply want.

What do we want? It may not always be easy to define. Aligning with the Lunar energies reminds us that sometimes, all we seek is comfort, nurturing, the space to feel our feelings, and the steadiness of being held as we allow everything to slow down and be absorbed.

Despite the Moon being in Cancer, the emphasis is on Capricornian themes of structure, order, duty, responsibility, and outer security. What we want right now encompasses these things as well. Can we have it all? Of course - provided we make space by releasing completed obligations to make room for new projects, people, and circumstances. These are the things that bring both inner safety and outer stability.

Neglecting our emotional world is perilous. Ignoring the desire for success may also leave us feeling unfulfilled. As always, the cosmic invitation is not to think in binary. It’s not ‘this or that’. It’s ‘this and that’. Where can we add on, to create more wholeness? Flow between career and family is a hallmark of this axis, setting us up for success in the year ahead.

In two weeks, the New Moon in Capricorn offers a brand-new foundation. For its potential to be fulfilled, the weeds must be pulled, emotions felt, the year released, passions followed, and attractions honoured.
