Solar Eclipse in Aquarius
Mere days before one of the most anticipated conjunctions of the century thus far - the Saturn/Neptune union - a powerful Solar Eclipse in rebellious Aquarius comes rushing in. With Saturn as the traditional ruler of the cosmos’ Waterbearer, this is a crucial, tender, and transformative period of time where both our personal and collective axis shifts.
As with all Eclipses, there are bound to be events unfolding beyond our conscious control - predestined, fated, meant-to-be. The more we resist, the more things persist. Releasing control and allowing the chaos to lift us, shake us out of our comfort zones, and place us back down on lands that might seem foreign is exactly the lesson our souls yearn for. We just don’t quite realize it - yet.
Instead, we may feel on edge, anxious, sensing a profound new chapter developing without knowing what it is. The weight of uncertainty bears down, particularly with Uranus, the co-ruler of Aquarius, casting an unpredictable square to the Luminaries. “Expect the unexpected” is the mantra to carry with us into the next six months and beyond, into the coming years.
If the Eclipse lands on any major planets or angles for us - the Ascendant, Sun, or Moon - we can anticipate life becoming very exciting, very soon. Opening ourselves up to change is crucial if we wish to avoid the stress of resistance.
At 28° Aquarius, there is also the sense that something is ending. This critical degree holds the energy of urgency and completion. We might be closing the door on a dream and inviting a new vision, perhaps realizing that the community we belonged to for so long is no longer aligned with us. We need to belong. We need to resonate with those whose souls sing the same song as ours. Nothing less will do. Hope arises when we are willing to develop authenticity over fitting in, when we are willing to look toward the future and take the steps - now - needed to manifest the dreams we hold so dearly.
Aquarius rules the 11th house of wishes fulfilled, of the heart’s hopes, of the soul’s dreams. It governs allies, those who support and carry us, those who celebrate us. Aquarius rules the future and all that it contains: all possibility, all idealism, all excitement. What inspires and guides us? Who are our role models, mentors, and gurus? How can we embody more of this energy for the next generation, so that our legacy resonates far beyond our own lives?
We are reminded now to reach higher than just our own desires. We are urged to act for the collective, to think bigger, and, of course, to remove all that stands in the way of total freedom. Aquarius is the great liberator. This Eclipse is not about what’s being taken from us, but rather about the freedom that is being gifted in the absence of shackles - a liberation that invites us to step boldly into our highest potential.
